AFECO were engaged by Damar to provide support in the design and commissioning of a new fire fighting booster pumping station at Aberporth MOD test facility, a project that was being delivered through Kelda Water.

Kelda Water appointed Damar to design, build and commission the new fire fighting booster station to replace the old existing system that had been serving the MOD facility since the 1920’s. On behalf of Damar, AFECO oversaw the design and procurement of the booster set and assisted in the design of the Motor Control Centre (MCC) and control system, flow metering, surge protection and anti-vortexing plates.

Frome WTW nitrate reduction scheme

Damar Group are a multi-disciplined service provider, delivering civil, mechanical and electrical engineering services. AFECO were engaged by Damar to manage the commissioning of a nitrate reduction scheme at Frome Water Treatment Works (WTW) on behalf of Bristol Water.

Bristol Water supply potable water to the region and Frome WTW treats reservoir water prior to distribution but has a historic problem of high nitrate levels entering the reservoir lines. Damar were appointed as Principal Contractor to implement a new nitrate reduction project to monitor the incoming nitrate levels and perform the right level of blending to reduce these levels to below the permitted maximum.

Superyacht sewage system review

AFECO was commissioned by a superyacht yard to act as independent process experts to identify and verify the causes of the poor performance of the sewage treatment systems they had installed on-board a number of their superyacht vessels both in commission and under construction. The installed sewage treatment system had been designed to meet the effluent standards detailed in the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) resolution MEPC.159(55) but a number of the units had experienced performance issues and the yard is keen to resolve the issues.

AFECO carried out a number of visits to various vessels to assess each installed treatment system for process and mechanical differences and to carry out process evaluations on the operational systems to identify the causes of poor performance. This evaluation included on-board analysis of samples using laboratory equipment and the assessment of on-board cleaning products to ensure they are suitable for use with biological systems.  AFECO identified the causes of poor performance and carried out a re-design of the system to incorporate the modifications required to optimise the process performance.
